An International Talent Competition is being organized by the Go International Society, which consists of the Chinese Students Society and the Students Union.

It's a good chance to give all international students a stage to show their special talent. This is also a good way to promote

2nd year Video & Film student short-listed in the 'Castaway' Titanic Belfast competition at the Cinemagic International Film Festival

The Pride of the Seas, a short film by Joske Slabbers (2nd year Video & Film student) along with Gary Boyd, has been short listed for the 'Castaway' Titanic Belfast competition, which is part of the Cinemagic International Film & Television Festival for young people.

3rd Year Community Sports Leadership students in DKIT are running a draw for a travel package for 2 people to see Ireland take on Italy on the 18th June at Euro 2012 in Poznan, Poland.with all proceeds in aid of the Jack N'Jill Children's Foundation.

New Members of the Higher Education Authority Welcomed

The Higher Education Authority has welcomed the appointment by Government of seven new members and reappointment of two of the outgoing members of the Authority.

DkIT Student making big impression at Lock Haven University

Exchange student Gavin Hammond from Dundalk Institute of Technology will share some insight into his country, culture and educational system at a coffee house event featuring Ireland at Lock Haven University's Institute, Pennsylvania.

Stephen McManus Retires

Stephen McManus retired on 29 February last and to mark the occasion staff from all sections of the college gathered to wish him well at Byrnes the following Friday 2 March. Among those present were Margaret, his wife, and family members who travelled from Dublin for the occasion.

DkIT's Got Talent

DkIT's Got Talent 2012 will take place in the Whitaker Theatre next Wednesday the 21st of March from 2pm.

Failure does not compute

A team from DkIT has won the Robocode competition for the second year running, beating a team from DIT in the final 7-0 with their robot "Jeffery".

English is not Enough!

February 21st was a momentous day for DKIT. Just as a group of French students from our sister college in le Havre arrived on campus, Paypal announced that they were setting up in Dundalk and would need graduates with modern language skills.

DkIT Celebrates Green Week

Green Week kicks off in DkIT on Mon next the 12th of March with the launch of the week by Student Union President and Vice President James Clarke and David Branagan. The week is designed by the Green Flag Group on campus and focuses this year on waste and re-use.

Professor Niall Moyna, School of Health and Human Performance, DCU shall give a guest lecture here on the 14th March at 2pm in the Whittaker Theatre. The talk sponsored by the Institute of Biology is entitled 'The Biology of Fitness'.

DkIT Enterprise Week 2012

For the second year running DkIT Student Enterprise ran an Enterprise Week. The aim of the week was to help students find out more about enterprise, the resources DkIT Student Enterprise provides students and to encourage participation.

DkIT Marks Fairtrade Fortnight

In 2011 DkIT was recognized as a Fairtade College. This means that catering outlets provide Fairtrade tea, coffee and at least two Fairtrade products. In order to gain this recognition Aramark Catering (Canteens), the Student Common Room and the Hospitality Dept all supported Fairtrade.

DkIT Choir and Chamber Orchestra perform The Rose

The Church of St Joseph provided the stunning backdrop, by kind permission of the Redemptorist Community, for the Institute's annual Christmas Concert presented by Ceol Oirghialla and celebrating the Institute's 40th anniversary.

Third year Cultural Studies students are holding an event called 'Second Impressions' in the Hospitality training restaurant on the 8th of March in aid of Crumlins Childrens Hospital and the local St. Vincent de Paul charity shops in Dundalk.

DkIT supported project, Global Border Studies (GBS), established in Nu Po Refugee Camp in 2010, will begin its post pilot phase in June with fifteen new students from Burma.

Sexual Health Awareness and Guidance Week

Fit 4 Life SHAG week kicked off on Valentines Day 14th February 2012. SHAG week is Sexual Health Awareness and Guidance week. It is aimed at students to inform them about safe sex. Fit 4 Life set up a stand promoting sexual health awareness.

Erasmus Intensive Programme in Music

Students and staff from Artesis University College, Antwerp and Stord Haugesund University College, Stord arrived for a two-week Erasmus Intensive Programme hosted by the Section of Music commencing on 13th February 2012.

BMW region Institutes of Technology in discussions re Technological University

The five Institutes of Technology in the Border, Midlands and West (BMW) region are at an advanced stage in discussions regarding the establishment of a technological university.

For the first time in our 40 Years history Dundalk Institute of Technology has awarded Distinguished Fellowships to four people who have contributed significantly to our community here in County Louth and on the international stage.

Avoca Room in the Library

In December the Library formally named one of its' Group Study Rooms as the Avoca Room. The title Avoca was suggested as this room is dedicated to the memory of Frances McKenna who worked in the Library of Dundalk Institute of Technology for over 20 years.

TUI Retirement Function- a great night had by all!

The TUI Dundalk branch gathered at the Fairways Hotel on Wednesday 7th December to honour their retired colleagues. Bernie Cassidy and Fionnuala Dullaghan were the back bone of the organising committee. Richard Crowley, Branch Chairman introduced TUI President, Bernie Ruane who presented a pen to the sixteen retirees present.

Former DkIT lecturer joins cabinet for the new Libyan government

Dr Fathi al-Akkari, has recently been selected to join the cabinet for the new Libyan government in the role of Deputy Mininster for education - Higher Education. Fathi commenced work in Ireland as a lecturer in Electronic Engineering at Dundalk I.T in 1998.

The Rose blooms in Dundalk

The 40th Anniversary of Dundalk Institute of Technology will be celebrated by DkIT choir and Orchestra with a special performance of The Rose.

DkIT Fencing Report

On the 19th and 20th November, 24 Members of Dundalk IT Fencing Club travelled to Derry to compete in the Derry Open. This competition was held in Foyle & Londonderry College Senior School and the competition in all three categories of weapons was of a very high standard.
