It’s Safe to Cycle to DkIT!

Cycling is a great way to travel to college. It keeps you fit and healthy, it doesn't produce any CO2 and you don't have to pay for parking!

In recent years a number of improvements have been made that make cycling to campus that little bit easier such as more sheltered cycle parking and plenty of shower/changing facilities. But despite these improvements, recent transport surveys undertaken by DkIT Green Campus have shown that both students and staff are concerned about security. There is a common concern about leaving bicycles parked on campus and Green Campus wants to help!

Our research has shown that there were no bicycles reported stolen from campus in 2011. This suggests that our campus is a safe place to park your bike and it is consistently improving. In 2010 there were 2 bikes reported stolen and in 2009 there were 3.

In an attempt to further improve bicycle security on campus we have given away almost 100 free bike locks to cyclists in the past year and we will continue to do so in the future.

For those of you who drive to college why not use this calculator to find out just how much your commute costs you per day, how much CO2 you produce and how many calories you could burn if you walked or cycled instead.

For those of you who already cycle or walk to college, thank you! We appreciate your contribution to DkIT becoming a Green Campus.
