Making Hunger History – Local Heroes in faraway places

DkIT and the Water Is Life project will participate in a special event entitled "Making Hunger History – Local Heroes in faraway places". The event is organised by Gorta and will take place on Saturday, April 28th at the Westcourt Hotel, Drogheda, commencing 2pm.

"The aim of this afternoon event is to bring together those in the north-east who have projects underway in the developing world, and those who support them right across the community," said Phil Conyngham, Chairperson of the Co. Louth Gorta Committee, adding "so many people have been incredibly generous in helping people in the world's poorest communities. This is a unique opportunity for everyone to see the good work being carried out."

Speakers at the conference will include Brendan Rogers, Director General of Irish Aid; the Medical Missionaries of Mary; DkIT (Water Is Life project); Louth Co. Council; Development Perspectives; and students from St. Joseph's CBS and Drogheda Grammar School.

Also confirmed for the event is a video address by Mary Robinson, Chair of the Mary Robinson Foundation – Climate Justice. The former President will reflect not only on An Gorta Mor of the 1840's but also on famine, drought and food shortages in developing countries today. As a former Patron of Gorta, she will also acknowledge the support of the Irish people in addressing hunger in the world today, through supporting organisations such as Gorta.

All are welcome – there is no charge or entry requirement.

See for further information on the event.
