DkIT Camogie team take the Double

Photography by Tim Wang of DkIT Photography Society.

The Dundalk IT camogie team won the Division 3 - All Ireland Camogie league last night in Darver, beating St. Marys of Belfast on a final scoreline of 2-8 to 2-6.
Their journey started last October when they beat St. Pats of Thurles, they followed this up with a win over St. Pats of Carlow. This left Dundalk IT top of their group and met Sligo IT in the Semi Final on the 15th of February last. They showed a master class performance in overcoming Sligo IT in the semi final which earned them deserved final place.

DkIT made very hard work of it in the opening half of the final last night and were trailing 1-5 to 0-2 at half time. However after the restart they found their rhythm and with a fantastic work rate from 2011 national All Star Aine Keogh at center back they started their comeback. Elaine Finn's (2011 All Ireland winning Westmeath football captain) athleticism, skill and accuracy proved vital for Dundalk, finishing with a personal tally of 1-7. Orla Doyle and Emma Smyth also made their presence known with a goal and a point respectively. Defence was rock solid in the second half with great performances from Rachel Divilly, Tanya Johnson and Treasa Sheridan. Lisa Smyth, Shauna Finnerty and Catherine Murray's work rate and assistance also gave Dundalk IT the edge they needed to come across the line with a narrow 2 point win.

I would like to thank trainer Trevor Hilliard for all his help over the past year. The Camogie team finish 2011/2012 year with both Championship and League titles. I would also like to thank Damian Whelan (Building Surveying) and Brian Fitzpatrick (CSL) for all of the help with the predominantly student run GAA Club. A special thanks to Shaunna Curtis (Marketing) who missed out on the final due to injury but was a major role in helping DkIT to the final. None of this could have happened without Student Services and in particular Ciara Patterson the sports and societies officer. And finally to the girls that made it happen:
