Trip to IUT Le Havre

Bonjour! For the fourth year running, the recent annual second year trip to France was a great success. A group of nine students and two lecturers (Vicky Leahy & Mairéad McKiernan) departed for France on the 30th of January. The group travelled to our sister college IUT Le Havre in the north of France.

At 8am we left the gare for the number 8 bus to the IUT (Institut Universitaire de Technologie) where we took part in a workshop with the French students, this benefited our understanding of French culture, society & of course, got us to speak le français. After the workshop, our second year class then gave a presentation on Irish culture, the town of Dundalk and DkIT en français! Whilst this was a daunting challenge we were glad we had done it. Next stop was la visite du Havre, which, despite the freezing temperatures we enjoyed. From there we were treated to crepes in a local restaurant courtesy of the French students.

On Wednesday 1st of February the class went on a historical visit to the American Cemetery and the Normandy beaches which were the location of the D-Day landings in Caen. We are grateful to Cathal Kearney, Head of School of Business Studies, and Noreen Carney of the International Office. Also thanks to the IUT lecturers of Le Havre, Karine Richer and Marie Raoult for helping make the trip so enjoyable. On the 21st of February our friends from the IUT Le Havre will be at DkIT. We have a full days activities organised including a Gaelic Football session, a campus tour & craic that evening with dinner and night out in the town!
