DkIT welcomes St Paul's

St Paul's High School visit Dundalk Institute of Technology

Dundalk Institute of Technology welcomed St Paul's High School, Bessbrook, County Armagh, for a private visit to the college recently. The visit consisted of 45 teachers from St Paul's, including principal, Mr Oliver Mooney. DkIT are keen to recruit students from the North of Ireland and efforts appear successful having received very positive feedback.

The award-winning principle, Oliver Mooney believed the event was necessary to inform the St Paul's teachers of the opportunities available to their students at DkIT, including the direct entry scheme. He said, "DkIT is an obvious stepping stone for our pupils. It is vital that our staff are equipped with the knowledge necessary to best advise our students on what I regard as one of the greatest educational resources in this cross border region."

The day kicked off with refreshments on arrival, followed by welcome and information talks from DkITs staff, School Liaison Officer, Diarmuid Cahill, Head of Section of Hospitality Studies, Brianain Erraught, DkIT registrar, Stephen McManus and Academic Administration and Student Affairs Manager, Linda Murphy. The heads of the various schools and departments within DkIT then had the opportunity to present about courses within their areas in more detail to attendees.

Staff from St Paul's were then taken on a tour of campus, with guests being impressed by facilities on offer in DkIT, particularly in the Nursing building and newly refurbished PJ Carroll's building. Which include a recording studio, radio station and television studio. All furnished with state of the art equipment.

DkIT School Liaison Officer, Diarmuid Cahill said, "Hopefully it will be the start of a great link that we can develop over the next few years".

To many of the visiting St Paul's staff, they were unaware of the full range of course programmes and facilities which exist at third level within 15 minutes of their school. Attendees left with a very positive view of DkIT and opportunities available.
