Former DkIT lecturer joins cabinet for the new Libyan government

Dr Fathi al-Akkari, has recently been selected to join the cabinet for the new Libyan government in the role of Deputy Mininster for education - Higher Education. Fathi commenced work in Ireland as a lecturer in Electronic Engineering at Dundalk I.T in 1998. He was part of the response to increase the number of manufacturing support technicians in Ireland for the High Technology industries.

Fathi left two years later to join the staff of IT Tallaght, as this allowed him to be closer to his religious community in Dublin.

Dr Akkari said his focus in his new role would be on developing Libya's research capacity, particularly in the IT area. "This is a good opportunity to make a difference for my country," he added.
